Jack Dempsey, born on June 24, 1895, in Manassa, Colorado, was an American professional boxer and the world heavyweight boxing champion from 1919 to 1926. Dempsey defended his title five times but lost to Gene Tunney in 1926. Despite his enormous disadvantage in size, Dempsey dominated with his superior quickness and ruthless tactics. He passed away from heart failure on May 31, 1983.
