When Bette Davis first arrived in Hollywood, the official greeter from the studio missed her at the station. Later he gave as an excuse, “No one looking faintly like an actress got off the train.” The founder and owner of Universal Pictures, Carl Laemmle, said. “I can’t imagine any guy giving her a tumble.”
But she exacted revenge, far and wide, for many years. Co-star Brian Aherne said, “Surely no one but a mother could have loved Bette Davis at the height of her career.”
