Shoeless Joe Jackson of the Chicago White Sox was a great baseball player. But he was accused of taking part in throwing games during the infamous 1919 World Series. Even though he was found innocent during a trial, he was nevertheless banned from Major League Baseball, and later, also from ever being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Said no less than Babe Ruth: “I copied (Shoeless Joe) Jackson’s style because I thought he was the greatest hitter I had ever seen, the greatest natural hitter I ever saw. He’s the guy who made me a hitter.”
