Ty Cobb was from Georgia, so they called him “the Georgia Peach.” He played center field for the Detroit Tigers, and for 22 years. The last six of those were spent as the team’s player-manager. No less than Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel said of Cobb, “He was the greatest all time ball player. That guy was superhuman, amazing.”
