There is little dispute that Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles was the greatest defensive third baseman in major league history. Casey Stengel‘s career spanned practically the entire twentieth century and he said Robinson was the best he had ever witnessed. Even long-time umpire Ed Hurley voiced an opinion, saying of Robinson’s defensive skill, “He came down from a higher league.”
