The dramatic lives and careers of Dodgers stars and Hall of Fame trail blazers Roy Campanella and Jackie Robinson have both been portrayed in motion pictures, including It’s Good to Be Alive and The Jackie Robinson Story. In each film, Campanella’s wife, and Robinson’s wife, was enacted by Ruby Dee, the Emmy and Grammy-winning actress recognized for her own efforts on behalf of civil rights, and someone who was a close friend of both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
