Many believe that the greatest baseball movie ever made was The Natural, starring Robert Redford. Back in 1954, Hall of Fame flame-thrower with the Dodgers, Don Drysdale graduated from Van Nuys High School that year with one particular senior. He was a fellow named Robert Redford. Roy Hobbs, in The Natural. They were classmates.
“We were in the same grade,” Drysdale recalled of Redford, “though I can’t lie to you and say that he and I were ever bosom buddies. I don’t remember him ever expressing an interest in being a movie star any more than I was focused on being a baseball player.”
