Flip Wilson got his big break when Johnny Carson asked Redd Foxx, his guest one night on The Tonight Show, “Who is the funniest comedian working today?”  Foxx told him it was Flip Wilson. That was all Carson needed to know! He booked Flip Wilson and his career in television exploded. Every comedy and variety show wanted him, especially The Ed Sullivan Show. Soon performers of Richard Pryor’s caliber were telling Wilson, “You’re the only performer that I’ve ever seen who goes on the stage and the audience hopes that you like them.”
