May 22, 2023 has been declared Harvey Milk Day in the City of Burbank. Harvey Bernard Milk was born on May 22, 1930. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, small business supporter, and was elected to the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco in 1977. He became the first openly gay man to be elected to a prominent political office in the U.S. Unfortunately, Harvey was publicly assassinated on November 10, 1978.
This proclamation recognizes Harvey’s dedication to fighting for equal rights, advocating for non-violent social change, and engaging in local government. Harvey believed that the American Dream started with caring for our neighborhoods and developing diverse communities. Members of the Burbank Human Relations Council were present to accept the proclamation.
