Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane is regarded as one of the greatest catchers in the history of the game. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics and the Detroit Tigers until suffering a near-fatal injury, being hit in the head by a fastball. Cochrane stayed in baseball to manage the Tigers. His career batting average of 320 is still the major league record for all catchers.
