Everyone wants a piece of crypto collectibles, and the world’s top space agencies and firms don’t want to be left behind.
Star Atlas, a blockchain-based metaverse offering space exploration with next-generation multiplayer gaming technology, launched the first-ever US Space Force (USSF)-licensed non-fungible token (NFT) on Tuesday, June 15.
NFTs are blockchain-based representations of tangible or intangible items that prove their holders are the true owners of whichever underlying asset they represent. These popularly range from crypto art, to real estate, to collectibles, but can technically be used to represent almost anything.
NFT on Solana
Star Atlas is a virtual gaming metaverse that creates a gaming experience using blockchain, real-time graphics, multiplayer video-game, and decentralized financial technologies. Real-time graphics technology using Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite allows for cinematic-quality visuals. Blockchain technology using the Solana protocol established a largely serverless and secured gameplay experience.
The Star Atlas NFT, a limited-edition meta-poster titled “Star Atlas Legends: Armstrong Forever,” commemorates the June 17th launch of the USSF satellite bearing Neil Armstrong’s name in honor of the famed astronaut’s dedication to space exploration.
“Star Atlas Legends: Armstrong Forever NFT with Space Force honors space exploration for our Atlassians and the future of the emerging metaverse,” said Michael Wagner, co-founder and CEO of Star Atlas, in a statement.
He added, “We are thrilled to be a part of this historic milestone, as the first metaverse to partner with the USSF for a unique and one-of-a-kind NFT. This partnership unlocks the potential of blockchain technology. It immerses our community in the growing adoption of real-time graphics, multiplayer video-game, and decentralized financial technologies on the Solana blockchain.”
Space enthusiasts
The Neil Armstrong meta-poster is released as a surprise for all space exploration enthusiasts in the NFT art collection titled “Re-Birth: Genesis of a Metaverse” and a first in the USSF campaign, representing a new avenue for Atlassians.
The surprise drop offers Star Atlas users in-game perks linked to the meta-poster including an in-game Neil Armstrong uniform patch, orbiting satellite add-on for a spaceship, and an in-game vintage spacesuit. In addition, posters will be minted into resalable NFTs available throughout the Star Atlas metaverse.
Meanwhile, the activity supports the U.S. military and its veterans; however, it is not officially connected to or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Defense or any of its branches.
“Released in the inaugural USSF-licensed NFT collection, this meta-poster honors the expansion of space exploration and leverages the permanence of blockchain to honor the Armstrong estate and the USSF’s commitment to educating, inspiring, and protecting global security through orbit,” ended Travis Cloyd, CEO of Worldwide XR, in a statement.
