The Malcolm X Foundation Presents Malcolm X Weekend May 18th & 19th in Harlem, NYC

New York, New York – On Saturday, May 19, The Shabazz Family and the recently revived Malcolm X Foundation will host a day-time block party festival in New York City to honor and celebrate El-Haj Malik El Shabazz’s 87th birthday, declaring “MAY 19 IS MALCOLM X DAY!”

The event will comprise of the community celebrating Malcolm X with poetry, speeches and entertainment. Specific details have yet to be determined. However, local elected officials, community and educational leaders expect to be in attendance.

The vendors include food, music, education based products, books, merchandising, and community organizations.

The family friendly event will be held at West 165th Street, between Broadway (Dr. Betty Shabazz Way) and St. Nicholas Avenues. The event is from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Shabazz Center’s annual program that celebrates the life and legacy of Malcolm X will immediately follow in The Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, located at 3940 Broadway (between W 165th and 166th Streets).

Earlier, on Friday May 18th, fans are welcome to celebrate the life and legacy of Malcolm X at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem from 5 to 9 p.m.

In honor of what would be Bettie Page’s 89th Birthday, a special limited edition of fun and sexy photographs from Page’s modeling career are available for her most devoted fans.

Fans can choose from four different photographs. Only 50 are available in each print.

These photographs were taken during Camera Club sessions that took place in the private homes of Camera Club members in New York during the 1950′s. Bettie Page posed effortlessly during these photograph sessions for several of the members personal collections of photographs on the weekends. At that time, Bettie Page’s week day job was of a secretary, but her true life desire was to be a model and actress. At one of these sessions Bettie Page would make more money than she would make in an entire week working as a secretary. Any spectator can see she truly enjoyed her work as a model as it shines through in these four gorgeous shots. Without having to take direction from any of the photographers, Bettie Page could find all of the best angles that featured her curvy and sexy famous figure.

It was an honor to have known one of the greatest inquisitors, Mike Wallace. I first met him in 1998 when we sat next to each other at Malcolm X’s widow’s funeral. During our shared limo ride to the cemetery, I saw a personal side to him off camera.

I experienced how he influenced so many media legends while I was working with the 60 MINUTES team over the past few years. He was an extraordinary talent with impeccable storytelling skills that will continue to inspire the media world.

For the first time, TIME Magazine has picked 100 of the most influential fashion icons since 1923, including the “Queen of the Pin-Ups,” Bettie Page!

According to TIME, “Today she’s known in some circles as a style goddess, worshipped for her sex appeal, lack of inhibition and ease in front of the camera. Her jet-black hair, thick bangs and innocent blue eyes defined the the bad-girl look of the era.”

March 27, 2012 -The world premiere of Bettie Page Revels All, directed by Academy Award nominee documentarian Mark Mori, will take place during the Viva Las Vegas Film Festival at Century Orleans 18 Theater April 5 thru 8.

This exclusive film, narrated by the late pinup queen and co-produced by Mark Roesler with the participation of CMG and Bettie Page LLC, is an intimate look at the rise and fall and rise of one of the world’s most recognized and controversial sex symbols.
With her razor sharp wit and Tennessee twang Bettie Page emerges from decades of seclusion to reveal her secret past. In this inside story of the world’s greatest pinup model, Bettie Page herself recounts how her unabashed sexual expression and sexually provocative fetish poses set the stage for the 1960s sexual revolution and ushered in a new era in fashion.

The film features interviews by Hugh Hefner, Dita Von Teese, Bunny Yeager, Paula Klaw; with appearances by Rebecca Romijn, Tricia Helfer, Tempest Storm, Sam Menning and Joey Arias, including Bettie Page photographers, ex-husband Harry Lear, ex-boyfriends, auto designer Richard Arbib, and U.S. Brig. Gen. Charles West.

“Bettie Page’s joyous free spirit, as seen in her photos and as I discovered in my conversations with her, influence two generations of women all over the world, including pop music icons like Katy Perry, Beyonce and Madonna as well as fashion designers, artists and filmmakers. The film also features unpublished photos and film of Bettie Page including new information and documents from her FBI files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. In addition, the film uncovers documents from the 1955 Kefauver hearings on pornography and crime, which had been sealed for 50 years.
